I mean that BfA or any other theme park game relies heavily on timers. A player has to log in every day or at least one day a week to get rewards (through completing daily dungeons or quests, or some other kind of a timed activity like Gold Saucer tickets in FFXIV). So the whole gameplay is split into pieces according to a certain schedule, it's highly repetitive and might create a "hamster in a wheel" feeling.

On the other hand, Classic/vanilla (and many other older games) approaches time in a different manner. It isn't tied to daily/weekly rewards (especially if a person doesn't tamper in high-end PvE). There is no need to log in every day being afraid to lose a reward, or to complete a certain activity in a few months, or they won't be able to get it in the future (like Blizzard introduced timed raid achievments in Mists of Pandaria; if a person failed to kill the last boss, they wouldn't get an achievment). In Classic content won't disappear, even if a person is late to the party.asdfzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13240447825019546862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4659326122793396570.post-43334084756384295772019-04-23T05:38:54.676+01:002019-04-23T05:38:54.676+01:00Yeah, but few people knew about them and even if y...Yeah, but few people knew about them and even if you did use them they just put people in a group with no consideration of roles so the system wasn't really useful. For me, being allowed to do things at my own pace is indeed very casual friendly. When I quit raiding during Firelands, I did note that character progression seemed to have turned into a rather Sisyphean task, with the boulder rolling back down the hill more quickly every tier, before I'd even had time to reach the summit.

Still, there were always players who seemed to welcome the constant gear resets for "keeping things fresh", and since Blizzard is still following the same model eight years later I figure there must be an audience for it.Shintarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16758343475446510635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4659326122793396570.post-3463416197899312992019-03-25T21:41:10.971+00:002019-03-25T21:41:10.971+00:00From John Staat's book, The World of Warcraft ...From John Staat's book, The World of Warcraft Diary, the leveling experience was the intended game for casual players. The intent was that group content, especially at level 60, was considered hardcore/dedicated content. That focus has definitely changed over the years, but that's where the initial view was at.Pallaishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01052537793722183657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4659326122793396570.post-46890565340310898192019-03-25T12:51:57.682+00:002019-03-25T12:51:57.682+00:00Seems to me that "having to play 24/7" i...Seems to me that "having to play 24/7" is a self-imposed requirement. Maybe "playing WoW" isn't what that person is actually doing; that person might need to tighten up the terminology. Or maybe that person has a frightfully skewed concept of "playing" "WoW".

At any rate, there's no pressure inherent in the game to "complete" it in a "time limit" and doubly so for Classic.

It's as "casual" as you want it to be.

(also, this applies 100% to current expansion, whatever that is)Grimmtoothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14384688484347073287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4659326122793396570.post-17585596696738118132019-03-25T09:24:27.225+00:002019-03-25T09:24:27.225+00:00As for me, I find vanilla WoW to be more casual, t...As for me, I find vanilla WoW to be more casual, than "retail". The game content will always be there, waiting for a player, and there are going to be enough guilds to start raiding with from the very beginning. There is no need to hurry being afraid that content is slowly becoming obsolete. On the other hand, on "retail" servers a player has to be always running just to keep up with the game changing every 3 months.asdfzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13240447825019546862noreply@blogger.com
